After You Finish Your Continuing Education Hours for Cosmetology What Do You Do After
"My continuing education hours are not posted!"
It is incredibly frustrating when you purchase a continuing education course, complete it, and fail to see your hours posted to your DBPR license account once you try to renew.
Our job at FloridaCosmetologist.com is to make sure your completed continuing education hours are reported to the DBPR. And we like to have them reported quickly so you can renew your license as soon as possible, especially near the renewal deadline.
Florida rules require that approved continuing education providers electronically report completed hours within a certain time period. Normally it is 30 days, but it goes down to 10 days the month of the renewal, and by the 5th of the month after completion in some cases. Here is the Rule if you care to read it- 61G5-32.001 Continuing Education. (e)

Providers must work with licensees to resolve reporting conflicts.
And that is why we are here today- to work with you to resolve this issue. We all make mistakes. While there are times where we do not get hours reported on our end, we often see the errors on the licensee's end.
If your completed continuing education hours are not posted to your DBPR license account, here are some of the top reasons we see here at FloridaCosmetologist.com. Let's troubleshoot!
Eight Common Reporting Problems
Problem 1: Did you complete the course you purchased?
Yes, this may seem like a silly question, but we have to start somewhere. Possibly, you had intentions of completing the course after purchasing or reading it. However, you just did not get that last step, the exam, done. Maybe your dog needed to go for a walk or your next client walked in just as you were about to take your exam. Completing the exam and obtaining a completion certificate is what triggers us to report your hours.
Remedy: If you purchased a course from our website, log in and complete your course here any time. Check to see if you have a course completion certificate. If you do not see one, take the course exam.
Problem 2: Did you complete the course from our website, FloridaCosmetologist.com?
From time to time, we receive emails asking why a person's hours have not been reported. Upon looking at our customer database, we fail to find an account associated with that email, name, or license number. That often indicates that they took the course from someone else.
There are many websites with names similar to ours. Check to see the provider's name, website, or board approval number. These items should all be on your course completion certificate.
Remedy: Check your provider information on your certificate. Here is the provider information for FloridaCosmetologist.com.
- Name: Technically, our company name with the board of cosmetology and barber board is Advanced Massage Techniques, Inc.
- Website: www.floridacosmetologist.com.
- Provider number: The provider number for Advanced Massage Technique is #0007442 for both boards.
If you did not take the course from us, we cannot report your completed hours for you. You need to contact your continuing education provider for that request.
Problem 3: Did you provide the correct license number, or forget to provide a license number?
This is one of the most common problems for reporting delays. It is easy to switch numbers in our heads when we are frantically typing to get our hours done on time ("Is it 11969 or 11699?"). The number and prefix you provide on your exam is incredibly important and not a time to guess.
First, it is important that you also provide the correct prefix:
Cosmetology Board Prefixes
- CL – Cosmetologist
- FV – Nail Specialist
- FB – Facial Specialist
- FS – Full Specialist
- BW – Body Wrapper
Barber Board Prefixes
- BB – Barber
- BR – Restricted Barber
- BA – Barber Assistant
Salon and Barber shop licenses do not require continuing education hours. Do not provide a salon (Prefix is CE) or barber shop (Prefix is BS) license number on your exam certificate.
Remedy: Check your certificate. It should have your name and license number on it. We need both for the continuing education reporting portal. Email us if you did not provide the correct license number and we will attempt to repost the hours. If you do not see a license number on your certificate, let your provider know.
Problem 4: Did you complete a reportable course?
We can only report our 10-hour (#0501351) Continuing Education courses to the cosmetology board. We also can report the 2-hour HIV/AIDS Course (#0300060) for the barbers' board if it is taken for license renewal.
For the cosmetology board, we cannot report the Initial 4-hour HIV/AIDS course (#0501034) for initial licensure or null and void applications. We also cannot report the 2-hour HIV/AIDS course for the barber board for initial license applications.
Remedy: If you are applying for a cosmetology or barber board license (including null and void applications), the HIV/AIDS course certificate needs to be sent to your board office with your application by you, the applicant.
Problem 5: Are you looking at the right time period?
From time to time, someone will send me screenshots that their hours are still not reported. The screenshot is incredibly helpful in this instance. Often, the problem is because this person is looking at the wrong continuing education period. In most cases, they are looking ahead at the dates for the next renewal.
So, if you are renewing your cosmetology board license for the 10/31/2022 deadline, the dates you should be looking at are 11/1/2020-10/31/2022 not for the future 11/1/2022-10/31/2024.
Remedy: Change the dates to the current renewal period in the dropdown above "requirements". See the pink arrow in the above image.
Problem 6: Has it been 72 hours?
We make it a priority to report hours within 24 hours of completion. However, even when we do that, the DBPR website that we enter your hours into sends us this email every time we post completed courses.

Remedy: If your license number is correct and you are looking at the right time period (see above), please give it 72 hours (24 hours for us and 48 hours for the department to post) after you complete the course for your hours to show up in your account. If you completed a course from us, and still do not see them posted after that time, let us know.
Tip: Usually, we get the successful upload email (meaning the hours we submit have been posted around 10:05 PM Eastern). Check after that time.
Problem 7: Did you complete the course in the right time period?
Time goes by really fast and it is easy to blur some renewals and courses together. A course taken in October 2020 cannot be used again for your 2022 cosmetology renewal unless you purchase and complete the course again.
Remedy: Check your certificate date. Is it within this renewal period cycle? If so, has it been reported previously? If not, here are our continuing education courses.
Problem 8: Is your license actually null and void?
If you missed the 2020 or 2021 renewal, your license is only delinquent and can be renewed. If you have missed more than two renewals, 2019 or earlier, then your license is now null and void.
Remedy:
Log into your account on www.myfloridalicense.com and check your license status. If it is null and void, it requires a null and void license application (see COSMO 7 on www.myfloridalicense.com) and completion of a 4 hour HIV course.
Still not resolved?
These are the most common issues we see. If you completed a course from FloridaCosmetologist.com and still do not see your continuing education hours posted after reading through this troubleshooting guide, let us know and we will look into it. You will need to contact your CE provider if you did not take the course from FloridaCosmetologist.com to resolve your problem.
